Been quite a while since I posted a journal entry on dA. Went through kind of a dry spell with my camera but certainly have never put it away and I'm always interested in what happens here on dA.
One thing I'm hoping I might be able to get is some more information about Lightroom. And maybe some of the photographers who watch me or make their way to this site have some insights that might help me out. I bought the program and have been using it for my photos in combination with GIMP. I find there are some things that GIMP does a lot better than Lightroom, sharpening, for example. Another is anything that requires painting of any kind.
Two questions I have is: 1) other than the free tutorials that are available from Adobe on Lightroom (and there are some really good ones) are there any tutorials worth buying? 2) Any insights into file management? Lightroom seems like it puts up as many walls as it can to block users from getting hold of old files. Many times Lightroom can't even see my old files, many of which are in Picasa. A while back I watched a two hour video on Lightroom that I hoped would get me started on photo processing. The instructor took most of the time talking about all the things one has to do to label and organize files in Lightroom to be able to work with them. Another tutorial presenter even offers a free video on how to bring files into Lightroom as an incentive to buy his product. Hey Adobe, what's with that?
So any info would be greatly appreciated. The weather has finally started to warm up here in the northeast U.S. Flowers are out. The hummingbirds have come back and are very busy, and I hope that's what I'll be with my camera.
